Everything you need to know about our Siem Reap food tours.

HOW LONG DO THE TOURS LAST? WHEN AND WHERE DO THEY START?

Morning tours start every day at 8 a.m. and are over between noon and 1 p.m. Evening tours start at 5 p.m. and you will be back at your hotel 8:45 p.m. If you're staying in central Siem Reap we will pick you up from your hotel by tuk tuk at the start of your tour and drop you off there after the tour. If you make a last-minute booking or your hotel is outside the center of town, we will ask that you meet us in a central location.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

Our tours cost $75 USD per person. The price of the tour includes all of your food, drinks (water, soft drinks, and beer), and transportation during the tour.

HOW MANY PEOPLE CAN A TOUR ACCOMMODATE? CAN I DO A PRIVATE TOUR?

In order to provide a truly personal in-depth experience, we usually limit our tours to small groups of up to four in the morning and up to eight guests in the evening. For an additional fee, we can give you an entirely private tour morning tour, by prior arrangement. We can also organize private tours for larger groups.

CAN KIDS GO ON A TOUR?

We welcome children on our morning tour, as there's more to do and see. The cost for kids 3 to 11 is $50 USD, and babies can come for free. If you have a child under 3 and you'd like to bring a stroller on the tuk tuk, they will need to pay the kids price (because they will be taking up a spot on the tuk tuk).

If there are children in your group please include a note in the questionnaire with the ages of the children and anything else you think we should know. Unfortunately we cannot accept bookings for children under 12 on our evening tour, but get in touch if you would like an exception.

Some families with children prefer to do a private morning tour, and we're happy to accomodate! If you're interested, please get in touch with the details of your group.

IS CAMBODIAN FOOD SAFE?

Siem Reap Food Tours only takes guests to vendors and restaurants that we visit often and in whose hygiene standards we have full confidence. It's true that many travelers experience an upset stomach when they first come to Cambodia, but you're just as likely to experience this after dining at a fancy hotel as at a street-food stall. We recommend washing your hands regularly during your visit to Cambodia and taking all ordinary precautions to avoid becoming ill. But if you make the right choices — and on our tours we do — there's no reason to deny yourself the pleasures of eating like a local while you're in the Kingdom of Wonder.

CAN YOU ARRANGE A VEGETARIAN OR PESCATARIAN (FISH-ONLY) TOUR?

We are happy to accommodate vegetarians and pescatarians — our morning tour offers the most vegetarian options, while the evening tour is more limited. When booking, please let us know whether you eat eggs, fish, or are willing to try a little bit of fish sauce. Fish sauce is very commonly used in Cambodia for the umami effect (but does not taste fishy).

We specialize in helping visitors explore how Cambodian locals cook and eat, so the experiences we offer reflect the foodways of the country, and veganism and strict vegetarianism are not common culinary traditions here. Those who follow a vegan diet are welcome on our tour, although the food options they will have will be less varied. The morning tour is a fascinating look into Cambodian culture, even for those who choose not to eat, or not to eat much.

WHAT ABOUT A TOUR FOR THOSE WHO EAT GLUTEN-FREE? OR A RED MEAT OR PORK-FREE TOUR? OR A TOUR FOR THOSE WITH ALLERGIES?

Yes, it's possible to organize a gluten-free tour or a tour without pork, or red meat. Please let us know in advance about your dietary requirements and we will do everything we can to accommodate you. However, peanut allergies and certain other food allergies may not be compatible with a food tour in Cambodia due to the risk of cross-contamination, and we cannot assume any responsibility for those with severe allergies. If you have a severe allergy, please contact us before making a booking.

WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE MORNING AND EVENING TOURS?

Our morning and evening tours have completely different itineraries (so feel free to do both!). On our morning tour, we will take you into the bustle of Siem Reap's food markets and street-food stalls, sampling food all along the way, then head on a scenic drive into the countryside where we'll visit Cambodian food producers in a small village. The morning tour offers lots of wonderful photographic opportunities.

Our evening tour gives the chance to "dine around town." We stop at several small, off-the-beaten-track and family-run restaurants and try their specialties, and we visit a nighttime dining spot popular with locals where we sample Cambodian BBQ and tasty street-side snacks. The evening tour is a more relaxed, social introduction to Siem Reap.

What if I’m a solo traveler?

Until tourism picks up post-pandemic, we have instituted a 2-person minimum for tours. If you’re flying solo, you can email us and we can try to match you up with someone else for a tour. If you have a few possible dates, you’re more likely to get matched up. Or, you’re welcome to pay for two and either have a private tour, or we will refund you if anyone else joins your tour.

How do we get around?

We travel by tuk tuk and this is not a walking tour. We do walk a bit, but usually not for more than five or so minutes at a time. If you have mobility issues, or other special needs, please let us know in advance so we can plan for any necessary accommodations.

WhaT if it rains?

Don’t worry! During the rainy season it rains a lot in Cambodia, and we are used to working around it. Although Cambodia has a very outdoor culture, most structures offer rain protection. We travel by tuk tuk which have special rain covers to keep you dry, and we can provide you with your own rain poncho. The rainy season in Cambodia is one of the most beautiful times of year, so don’t be afraid to visit us then.

What’s your cancellation policy?

Tours that are cancelled at least 7 days in advance will be refunded in full, while tours cancelled at least 72 hours in advance will be refunded 50%. You are welcome to change the date of your tour up to 48 hours in advance.

Guests who do not show up at the designated time for their pickup will be considered no-shows after 10 minutes, and the cancellation policy above will apply. Please do not leave our guide and other guests waiting!

Please read our full cancellation policy and liability release.

HOW DO I BOOK?

We keep our tours small, so please book well in advance if you'd like to tour on a particular day. We do book up quickly, particularly during high season. We take bookings 90 days in advance. Please visit our booking page to reserve and pay for your tour.

What FORms of payment do you take?

Our regular credit card processor was a victim of the pandemic, but you can secure your reservation using Wise (formerly Transferwise) or a local bank transfer to our US, EU, AU, UK, SG or CA bank accounts. If you're in Cambodia, we also accept payment by WING.

What about Phnom Penh?

Unfortunately we have not reopened Phnom Penh Food Tours since the pandemic. Find out how to get to Phnom Penh from Siem Reap.
